These are pictures from my niece Makena's 6th birthday party in Canada. She wanted a camping themed party. Kids roasted hot dogs and marshmallows at a fire-pit and played games at the Nordic Centre, where the party was held. Makena requested a mushroom birthday cake, which my sister-in-law made and it turned out really well.
This inspiring picture is from Amy Atlas, who has a terrific blog herself. I spied those pink milk glass cake plates at the Donna Hay store, by the way. They also come in white and jade.
These gazpacho served in cucumber 'glasses' were done by my friend Alayne at a summer dinner party. Just hollow out the cucumber, leaving a fairly solid base, then fill with the chilled soup and garnish with sour cream and cilantro.
A great idea from Donna Hay. Just recently I visited her new General Store in Woollahra, Sydney. It is so much fun to poke around in and I bought some adorable polka dot cupcake wrappers.
A clever idea from Gorgeous Helen (bought at Top 3 by Design in Sydney). They're velum lampshades that fit on standard wine glasses. Pop a tea light in the glass and you have little 'lamps' for your table setting. Instructions on how to make them are here.
This is a cake I made for my niece Georgia's 13th birthday. She had wanted a polka-dot two tiered cake. The only dots I could find were fondant, which I'm not crazy about due to their flavour. Instead I used sherbert fizz candies for the 'dots' from The House of Chocolate (Bondi Rd, Sydney).
Coconut cupcakes from Barefoot Contessa's recipe I made for my friend Aphrodite's bridal shower. I found the vintage looking wedding cake topper at Michael's craft store in Canada.
